No fast-paced, dynamic city is without its iconic streets and beloved parks, and Mexico City is no exception.

Paseo de la Reforma and Bosque de Chapultepec are prime examples.

Paseo de la Reforma is a broad, tree-lined boulevard connecting downtown Mexico City with its main park, Bosque de Chapultepec.

⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯
This emblematic artery runs through restaurants, hotels, shopping centers, and embassies. Along its length, it is studded by public art displays, monuments, and sculpture.

There is the eye-catching yellow Caballito (horse), the monument to the Aztec emperor Cuauhtémoc, and more. Perhaps the city’s most iconic landmark is the Monumento a la Independencia, commonly called “El Ángel.” This gilded statue of victory is where Mexicans gather to both celebrate and protest.

Reforma throbs with energy,
reflecting the vibrant city.

In contrast, Bosque de Chapultepec park is a respite from the hubbub of the city. Encompassing more than 1,700 acres, this park whose name means “grasshopper hill,” is divided into four sections. These encompass numerous museums and even a zoo.

Highlights include the Castillo de Chapultepec, or castle, built in 1785 for colonial rulers. Today, it is a history museum, including impressive murals, rooms furnished for the emperor Maximilian, and lovely gardens with breathtaking views over the city.

The Museo de Arte Moderno and the Museo Rufino Tamayo are world-renowned modern art museums, but the top spot is the Museo Nacional de Antropología. Among the finest anthropology museums in the world, it details both Mexico’s pre-Hispanic past and the current lifestyles of Mexico’s many indigenous cultures.

There is truly something for everyone.

But beyond world-class museums, this park is Mexico City’s most important green space, where families and friends gather to relax. There is the Chapultepec Zoo and many restaurants and picnic spots.

Plus, the park has recently undergone extensive renovations led by artist Gabriel Orozco. There is a great parkour course, expanded and improved trails, and skate parks. Come on a weekend, and you’ll see that it is truly a park for all the city.

Paseo de la Reforma and the Bosque de Chapultepec offer an intriguing window onto the culture of this fascinating city.
